Brief Summary of the Veterinary Assistants Position

The Veterinary Assistant ensures animal welfare, assists in treatments and surgeries, maintains medical records, conducts diagnostic tests, administers medications, promotes preventative care, and manages medical supplies.

About the Clinic

Our international clinic is 10 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes walk to the Han river. Not even to mention the beautiful Son Tra mountain that is 15 minutes ride on your motorbike, where you can see the Brown-Shanked Douc Langurs and 100 kinds of rare animals. With Hoi An (UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site) only 30 minutes drive away, you can quickly pop over on your days off.

Job/Position Details

  • Ensures the well-being and humane treatment of animals.
  • Consulting clients
  • Follows and enforces disease control protocol and disinfecting to ensure a safe, healthy environment.
  • Ensures daily cleaning of cages, feeding, and caring for hospitalization animals
  • Stays up to date with veterinary staff about patient medical records
  • Assist vets in examining animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries
  • Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, performing supervised surgery, or other therapies as guided by the vets
  • Collect body tissue for examination and analysis
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain kennels, operating rooms, examining rooms, cages, and surgical equipment
  • Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images
  • Administer medications
  • Assisting/Monitoring during the surgeries
  • Conducting laboratory tests on specimens to diagnose medical conditions.
  • Performing diagnostic imaging and ultrasound tests.
  • Dressing, and treating wounds, and prescribing medication.
  • Promoting preventative care by advocating and administering routine vaccinations, and by educating clients on positive diet and lifestyle choices for pets.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certificates in veterinary assistance are advantageous but not always required.
  • Willingness to undergo on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced veterinary staff to learn practical skills.
  • Understanding of basic animal care, including feeding, grooming, and recognizing signs of distress or illness in animals.
  • Ability to assist in medical procedures, handle laboratory equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed.
  • Physical fitness to handle tasks that may involve lifting heavy loads, standing for long periods, and dealing with animals of various sizes.
  • Good communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners, colleagues, and veterinarians.
  • Precision and attention to detail, especially when following instructions for animal care or medication administration.
  • High levels of empathy and patience when dealing with animals and their anxious owners.
  • Proficiency in Vietnamese for effective communication within the work environment. Basic English skills can be beneficial for understanding medical terms and procedures.
